We are opening a second coffee shop in Garner, at 336 State St.
We have been roasting since 2018 and on Main Street in Belmond since 2020. Garner is the first time we have taken the shop anywhere else, and it is not something we decided quickly.
What will be there
The same coffee. Everything is roasted on the Mill City drum roaster in Belmond, in small batches, by hand, the way it is now. Garner will pour it and sell it in bags, but the roasting stays in one place, which is the only way we know how to keep it consistent.
That means the same ten coffees: Honduras, Ethiopia Yirgacheffe, Colombia, Guatemala, Mexico, Tanzania Peaberry Plus, Brazil, our Espresso Blend, Half-Caffeine and Decaf. Espresso drinks, Lotus energy drinks, and the baking we do in house.
The Honduras is the one worth knowing about. It comes from the Hacia el Futuro co-operative in Zapote. We have been to those farms, met the growers, and we pay above premium price for every pound. We buy it through Cafe El Zapote, a nonprofit based here in Iowa.
We are hiring, and you do not need experience
This is the honest reason this post exists. We need people in Garner, and we would rather find them locally than not.
We are hiring for front counter, kitchen and management. No experience needed. We train you. If you have never made a latte in your life and you are willing to learn, that is genuinely fine.
- Barista and front counter. $5 to $10 an hour, plus tips.
- Assistant manager and manager. $35,000 to $65,000 a year.
- Everyone gets a 20% staff discount and a yearly bonus based on performance.
You can apply for Garner, for Belmond, or for either one, whichever needs people. The application is on our jobs page and takes a few minutes. There is no cover letter and nothing to upload.
If you already know us
Nothing changes in Belmond. Same hours, same counter, same roaster behind it. Monday to Friday 7AM to 2PM, Saturday and Sunday 8AM to 2PM, open every day. Free local delivery in Belmond on anything you order from the website, no minimum.
If you do not
Come in. The roaster is ten feet from where you order and you can watch it run. Ask what is fresh, ask what was roasted this week, ask anything. That is the whole reason we put it out front instead of in a back room.
You can also order online and have it shipped. Free US shipping at $35 or more, a flat $8.00 under that, and it goes out within a day or two of you ordering.
We will post here and on Facebook as Garner gets closer.
